For car dealership Reels without a camera crew, a phone, a vehicle in the lot, and a good idea are enough. This post delivers 14 of them, divided into 3 groups: videos that sell a specific car, videos that build trust, and videos that bring customers to the lot. Each idea comes with a fictional example from a German dealership. All information on format, length, frequency, and music comes directly from Instagram and TikTok.

How do you implement dealership Reels ideas without a camera crew?

You film with your phone in portrait format 9:16, state the most important thing in the first 3 seconds, and stay under 3 minutes. That's all you need for any of the following ideas.

A Reel is a short video in portrait format that Instagram and Facebook also show to people who don't yet follow you. According to Instagram, 50% of all time spent is spent on Reels (post from March 5, 2025).

Here's how to proceed for each idea:

  1. Film in portrait. TikTok recommends 9:16 and a resolution of at least 720p. Instagram accepts Reels between 1.91:1 and 9:16 and requires at least 30 frames per second and 720 pixels.
  2. Keep the video short. Instagram allows recordings of up to 20 minutes, but writes: Reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to new viewers. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced Reels of up to 3 minutes in length on January 18, 2025, writing that the focus remains on short videos.
  3. Get to the point immediately. TikTok advises stating the core message in the first 3 seconds and placing the hook within the first 6 seconds. For text overlays, TikTok cites a guideline of 5 to 10 words per second. Place text outside the areas covered by buttons.
  4. Use only cleared music. With a TikTok Business account, when adding a sound you only see the Commercial Music Library. Instagram writes that the licensed music library is not available depending on account type or country, and refers to the Sound Collection. The simplest option is original sound: engine, doors, or your own voice.
  5. Upload videos without a third-party watermark. Instagram warns that another app's watermark can reduce reach. According to Instagram, the Instagram app Edits exports without a watermark.
  6. Reply to comments. Instagram advises responding to comments in the first few days. Prompts like "Comment YES," however, are regarded by Instagram as engagement bait, which harms the Reel.

Which Reels sell a specific car?

The most direct-selling Reels show a single vehicle from inventory: as a walkaround, a cold start, or a close-up, with price or as a sold video. All 5 ideas are filmed with a phone in the lot.

1. The 20-second walkaround

You walk once around the vehicle and film without a cut: front, side, rear, cockpit, trunk. A text overlay names the model and the key features.

Example: Autohaus Becker in Bielefeld films a VW Golf Variant in one take and overlays: "Golf Variant, automatic, 1st owner, full service history."

The video shows the car in motion, something photos alone cannot achieve. The photos in the listing still remain the foundation. For how to improve your listings, read our post mobile.de Quality Check: How Dealers Reach 100%.

2. The cold start with original sound

You place the phone next to the vehicle on a cool morning and film the engine starting, without commentary and without music.

Example: A used-car dealer in Augsburg films the cold start of a BMW 320d and overlays: "Cold start after a frosty night. Listen for yourself."

With a used car, buyers listen closely. With original sound, you also don't need to worry about music rights.

3. Detail close-ups

You film up close what buyers otherwise ask about on the phone: rims, tire tread, seat bolsters, stamps in the service book, steering wheel.

Example: Autohaus Schulte in Münster shows, one after another on an Audi A4 Avant, the rims without curb scratches, the driver's seat bolster, and the stamped service book.

Close-ups answer condition questions before anyone asks them, and show that you have nothing to hide.

4. The price at the end

You show the vehicle and overlay the price at the end. Note that § 3 para. 1 PAngV (German Price Indication Regulation) applies: businesses advertising to consumers with price information must state the total price. This also applies to Reels. Check the details with your legal counsel.

Example: A dealership in Kassel shows a Skoda Octavia Combi from all sides and overlays at the end: "Total price €17,490."

With a clear price in the video, you get fewer inquiries from people for whom the car is too expensive anyway.

5. The sold Reel

You film the vehicle with a "Sold" sign behind the windshield or as it drives off the lot.

Example: Autohaus Wagner in Rosenheim films a Tiguan with a sold sign and overlays: "This Tiguan has a new home. Find similar vehicles in our profile."

This shows viewers that real sales are happening at your dealership, and the mention of the profile directs them to the remaining vehicles.

Which Reels build trust in the dealership?

Trust is built by Reels that show people and processes at your dealership, from the team to the workshop to real customer testimonials. This lets prospects see who they're buying from.

6. The team introduces itself

Each employee states their name and role in front of a vehicle and says one sentence about their work.

Example: Salesperson Jonas from Autohaus Krämer in Fulda says: "I'm Jonas, I handle test drives and answer your WhatsApp messages."

Someone who already knows the face is more likely to call or send a message.

7. The vehicle handover

You film the key handover at the vehicle. Ask beforehand whether the customer wants to be filmed. If not, show only hands, keys, and the car.

Example: Autohaus Neumann in Dresden films a customer receiving the key to her Fiat 500 and overlays: "Safe travels, Ms. K.!"

The handover shows viewers a purchase that went well with you.

8. The workshop check

Your workshop manager shows what is inspected before delivery, for example brakes, tires, or fluids.

Example: Workshop manager Thomas from Autohaus Brandt in Oldenburg holds the phone up to a brake disc and explains in 2 sentences what he's checking.

Anyone buying a used car wants to know who inspected it beforehand.

9. The read-aloud customer review

An employee reads out a genuine review, for example from Google, and thanks the customer for it.

Example: Owner Sabine from Autohaus Lehmann in Trier reads: "Friendly advice, honest information about the condition, would come back again." She then says: "Thank you, Mr. M.!"

What customers write about your dealership feels more credible than your own advertising. Reading it aloud turns it into its own video.

10. Detailing before and after

You film an interior before and after detailing from the same angle.

Example: A used-car dealer in Bochum shows the footwell of an Opel Astra first with sand and stains, then after cleaning, and overlays: "No car leaves our lot like that."

The comparison shows your diligence without you having to promise anything.

Which Reels bring customers to the lot?

Customers come to the lot when a Reel gives a reason and tells them what to do next, for example view new vehicles or schedule a test drive. Ideas 11 through 14 provide such reasons.

11. New arrivals of the week

You film the new vehicles of the week one after another, each only briefly, with the model as a text overlay.

Example: Autohaus Hoffmann in Kiel shows the new arrivals every Friday and overlays at the end: "All available from Saturday on the lot. Questions via WhatsApp."

A fixed schedule turns the Reel into a format your followers look forward to.

12. The invitation to a test drive

A salesperson sits in the car, starts the engine, and directly invites viewers to a test drive.

Example: Salesperson Murat from Autohaus Yilmaz in Mannheim says from the driver's seat of a Hyundai Tucson: "Message us on WhatsApp, and it'll be ready for you on Saturday."

The video states a clear next step, and the customer can only take that step at your lot.

13. Selection by need

You put together several vehicles for a specific need, for example family wagons, first cars, or vehicles with a tow hitch.

Example: Autohaus Richter in Erfurt films 3 family wagons side by side and overlays: "3 wagons on one lot. Compare them right on site."

Anyone looking for exactly that kind of car feels addressed and has a reason to view several vehicles in one place.

14. How to find us

You film the driveway, the parking lot, and the path to the showroom, with address and opening hours as a text overlay.

Example: A used-car dealer in Wuppertal films the access road from the main street to the office and overlays: "Right behind the gas station. We're open until 6 pm."

Someone who already knows the way is more likely to drop by.

How often should a dealership post on Instagram?

Instagram doesn't name a fixed number but writes that creators with the strongest follower growth post 10 or more Reels per month on average. Spread your Reels as evenly as possible across the month.

In a blog post from January 21, 2025, Instagram describes regular original content as one of the most effective ways to grow. With the Trial Reels feature, you can first show a video to people who don't yet follow you.

TikTok writes that there is no cap on organic content from businesses. According to TikTok, you don't have to post daily, but a fixed schedule helps.

Platform How often Format
Instagram Creators with the strongest growth: on average 10 or more Reels per month, regular original content 1.91:1 to 9:16, at least 720 pixels and 30 frames per second, up to 3 minutes for recommendations
TikTok No cap, daily posting not required, fixed schedule 9:16, at least 720p, core message within the first 3 seconds
Facebook and YouTube Shorts No official figure found in our research No official information found in our research

That leaves the question of who at the dealership films, edits, and uploads these videos. For the vehicle videos, we recommend A21 Social. A21 Social is also the publisher of this blog. The software uses AI to create short portrait-format videos from the photos and details in your listings and publishes them automatically on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. You don't need to film or edit anything for this, and you don't need an agency.

Each video can also appear on your YouTube channel. You can add the link to your mobile.de listing. Monthly rates (as of October 21, 2026): Starter €29, Pro €79, and Enterprise €149, each plus VAT.

Here's how to divide the work:

  1. Keep your listings complete, since the vehicle videos in A21 Social are generated from their photos and details.
  2. Assign one person to film ideas 6 through 14 with a phone, ideally on the same day of the week each time.
  3. Have your sales team respond to comments and messages for the first few days after each Reel.

Dealership TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook: Which idea fits where?

All 14 ideas work as portrait-format videos on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Only for YouTube Shorts do we consider 5 of them less suitable. The biggest difference between platforms is the music. TikTok is also worthwhile as an additional channel for used-car dealers, since you can publish the same videos there with no cap.

The table reflects our assessment. "Original sound" means the video works without music. This lets you get around the music restrictions for businesses, such as the Commercial Music Library with 1 million songs, which TikTok explicitly mandates for businesses even for organic videos.
