Car Dealership Captions for Instagram: 16 Templates (2026)
Copy 16 car dealership captions for Instagram for arrivals, price drops, sold cars, financing and weekends that fit the 5-hashtag cap and FTC fee rules.

You can copy the 16 car dealership captions for Instagram below for 5 moments (a new arrival, a price drop, a sold car, a financing post and a weekend sale), each written to fit Instagram's 5-hashtag cap and the FTC's all-in pricing guidance. Our recommendation for turning your listings into videos and posting them for you is A21 Social, which starts at $49 per month on the Starter plan. A21 Social publishes this guide.
| Scenario | Templates | What the caption shows | Rule to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| New arrival | 1 to 4 | Year, make, model, key details, all-in price | In-transit cars must be shown as not on the lot (FTC FAQs) |
| Price drop | 5 and 6 | New all-in price, stock number | Price includes every mandatory fee, including the doc fee (FTC FAQs) |
| Weekend sale | 7 and 8 | Hours, address, featured car | Walk-in price stays the most prominent price (FTC FAQs) |
| Sold car | 9 to 12 | Thank-you, model, invite to similar stock | Do not keep advertising cars you no longer have (FTC) |
| Financing | 13 to 16 | Invite to apply, no payment numbers | Payment, down payment and term are Reg Z triggering terms (CFPB) |
How to use these templates
Copy a template, replace every [placeholder] in square brackets with facts from the listing, delete any line that is not true for that car, and keep hashtags at 5 or fewer. A caption is the text that sits under your Instagram post or reel, and these are built to be short enough to read in a scroll.
On December 18, 2025, Instagram's @creators account posted: "New hashtag guidance: Starting today, Instagram will allow up to 5 hashtags in a reel or post."
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, explained the change this way: "While I know it can be tempting to use more, a few specific tags actually perform better than a long list of generic ones. Quality over quantity is key," as reported by Digital Trends. Every template below uses 5 tags or fewer for that reason.
For caption length, Meta's developer documentation lists a "Maximum 2200 characters, 30 hashtags, and 20 @ tags." That page has no date, and its hashtag figure is older than the 5-hashtag cap. Treat 2,200 characters as the ceiling and 5 hashtags as the current rule.
Captions are worth the effort because shoppers do look. Cox Automotive's Car Buyer Journey Study found that 26% of shoppers used social media while shopping for a vehicle, rising to 28% among new-vehicle buyers, in a survey of 2,300 recent buyers.
Prices in captions are ads. The FTC's pricing transparency FAQs list social media alongside websites, print, signs, phone and text, and say: "Regardless of the format, every one of these touchpoints is subject to the FTC Act." An all-in price, in the FTC's words, is "the actual price that any consumer can walk in and pay to purchase the vehicle, excluding only charges that the government requires the consumer to pay," per the FTC's September 15, 2026 announcement.
The older CARS Rule is a separate matter. NADA reports that the Fifth Circuit vacated the FTC's CARS Rule on January 27, 2025 and that the rule "has no force or effect." The 2026 FAQs rest on the FTC Act instead. This guide summarizes sources and is not legal advice, so run your house wording past whoever handles compliance for your store.
To use a template:
- Pick the scenario that matches the post.
- Fill each [placeholder] from the live listing, not from memory.
- Enter the price as the all-in figure your desk would quote any walk-in buyer.
- Swap in your 5 hashtags.
- Read it once on your phone before you post.
Car dealership captions for Instagram: new arrival templates
A new arrival caption names the car, gives 1 or 2 details shoppers care about, shows the all-in price and tells people how to reach you. If the car is not on your lot yet, the FTC FAQs say in-transit ads "should ensure that the advertisement makes clear that the car is not physically on the lot."
These work for both franchise and independent stores. Pair them with a walkaround reel; our list of 12 car dealership video ideas covers what to film.
1. Just hit the lot (used car)
Just hit the lot: [year] [make] [model] [trim]

#[make] #[make][model] #[city] #[dealershipname]
Use it when new model-year units arrive, and price the exact vehicle in the video so the ad matches a car you actually have.
How to announce a price drop or weekend sale on Instagram
Put the new all-in price first and largest, add the stock number, and give a clear end date for any weekend offer. On March 13, 2026, the FTC sent warning letters to 97 auto groups saying advertised prices must be the total price, including all mandatory fees.
Those letters list 6 practices the FTC calls illegal. Check every price-drop and sale post against them:
- "advertising a price that does not reflect all required fees"
- "advertising a price that reflects rebates or discounts not available to all consumers"
- "advertising a price that fails to take into account the amount of an additional required down payment"
- "conditioning the advertised price on consumers using dealer financing"
- "requiring consumers to buy additional items not reflected in the advertised price"
- "advertising unavailable or non-existent vehicles"
Targeted discounts can still appear. The FTC FAQs give the example of a dealer advertising a $34,999 car that can show a $1,000 first-responder discount, as long as the $34,999 walk-in price is the most prominent.
5. Price drop
Price drop: [year] [make] [model] [trim]
Now $[new all-in price, including all mandatory fees]
Was $[previous advertised all-in price]
[mileage] miles | [1 standout feature]
Stock #[stock number] | [dealership name], [city]
DM "[keyword]" or call [phone].
#pricedrop #[make][model] #usedcars #[city]cars
Use it the same day you reprice a unit, after the new price is live on your website and third-party listings.
6. Aged unit, fresh price
This [year] [make] [model] has waited long enough for its next owner.
We lowered the price to $[all-in price, including all mandatory fees].
Why it's still a great buy: [reason 1], [reason 2].
Stock #[stock number] | Test drive today: [phone / link in bio]
#[make][model] #usedcars #[city]cars #[dealershipname]
Use it for units nearing your aging cutoff, as part of the weekly routine in how to sell more used cars at a dealership.
7. Weekend sale
This weekend at [dealership name]: [sale name]
Saturday [hours] | Sunday [hours / closed]
[Street address, city]
Featured: [year] [make] [model], $[all-in price, including all mandatory fees]
[Optional: Extra $[amount] off for [group, e.g. first responders]. $[all-in price] is what any buyer pays.]
Offer ends [date].
#[city]cars #[dealershipname] #weekendsale #[make]
Use it on Thursday or Friday for a planned sale event, and keep the walk-in price in the main line.
8. Short weekend caption
Open Saturday [hours]. [number] [make / body style] in stock, prices shown with dealer fees included.
Browse: [link in bio]
#[city]cars #[dealershipname]
Use it as a quick Saturday morning post or Story text when you have no single featured car.
What to write for a sold car caption and customer delivery
A sold caption thanks the buyer, names the car and points the next shopper to similar stock. Since the FTC lists "advertising unavailable or non-existent vehicles" among its 6 problem practices, also mark the car sold or remove it everywhere else it is listed.
Ask the buyer before you post their photo or first name. If they say no, post the car and a hand on the key instead.
9. Delivery thank-you
Congrats, [buyer first name]! Enjoy your [year] [make] [model].
Thanks for choosing [dealership name] and [salesperson first name].
[Optional: what they're using it for, in their words]
#delivery #[make][model] #[dealershipname] #[city]
Use it at delivery, with the buyer's permission, as a photo post or a reel of the key handoff.
10. Sold, similar available
SOLD: [year] [make] [model]
Missed this one? We have [number] similar [make / body style] in stock right now.
See them: [link in bio] or DM "[keyword]".
#[make][model] #usedcars #[city]cars #[dealershipname]
Use it when a car that got a lot of DMs sells, so the interest moves to cars you still have.
11. Short sold caption
Sold and headed home with [buyer first name / a new owner]. Thank you, [city]!
#[dealershipname] #[city]cars
Use it for quick Stories on busy delivery days.
12. Milestone delivery
[Buyer first name]'s [first car / first new car / 3rd car from us]: a [year] [make] [model].
[One line on the story, approved by the buyer]
Thanks for trusting [dealership name], and welcome to the family.
#[make][model] #[dealershipname] #[city]
Use it for first-time buyers, repeat customers and other deliveries with a story the buyer is happy to share.
Car financing captions for Instagram that skip Reg Z trigger terms
A financing caption can invite people to apply without naming a payment, a down payment, a number of payments or a finance charge, because those are "triggering terms" under Regulation Z. A triggering term is a credit detail that, once it appears in an ad, requires more disclosures; the CFPB's text of 12 CFR 1026.24 lists "The amount or percentage of any downpayment," "The number of payments or period of repayment," "The amount of any payment," and "The amount of any finance charge."
If an ad uses one, section 1026.24(d)(2) requires it to also state the downpayment amount or percentage, the terms of repayment (including any balloon payment), and the "annual percentage rate," using that term, plus the fact that the rate may increase if it can. CFPB commentary says phrases like "no downpayment," "monthly payments to suit your needs," and "regular monthly payments" do not trigger these disclosures.
The FTC's FAQs also cover financing discounts. A $39,999 vehicle can show a $2,000 dealer-financing discount only if the $39,999 price that applies with any financing is listed most prominently.

Use it only when your finance office supplies every number and your compliance contact has approved the final wording.
How to adapt them to your dealership
Set your house rules once, give one person the job, and post on a fixed schedule so the templates turn into a habit. The rules cover 3 things: your fee wording, your 5 standard hashtags and your voice.
Lock the fee line first. The FTC's FAQs say "The advertised price must include any mandatory fee, including the full document fee if the dealer requires any consumer to pay it." Write one approved price line for your store and paste it into every template that shows a price.
Then build a hashtag set. Given Mosseri's point that a few specific tags perform better than a long generic list, a dealer set usually looks like this:
- 1 make and model tag, such as #[make][model]
- 1 city or area tag, such as #[city]cars
- 1 dealership name tag
- 1 inventory type tag, such as #usedcars or #certifiedpreowned
- 1 event tag when it fits, such as #pricedrop or #delivery
Adjust the voice to your store. A luxury franchise might drop the casual openers; a buy-here lot in a small town might add the salesperson's name to every post. Keep the facts and the price line the same either way.
Example: a 3-person independent lot assigns captions to its office manager. She fills templates 1 and 5 from each morning's recon and reprice list, uses template 9 at every delivery where the buyer agrees, and keeps template 13 pinned. It is a made-up routine, not a measured result.
Here is how the work splits:
| Task | Who does it | How often | Tool |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fill and check captions | Sales or office manager | Each new listing, reprice or delivery | These templates |
| Approve price and finance lines | GM or compliance contact | Once, then when fees change | Your house wording doc |
| Make listing videos | Marketing person, agency or software | Each new listing | Phone or A21 Social |
| Post to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube | Same person or software | On a fixed schedule | Native apps or A21 Social |
Software can take over the last 2 rows. A21 Social, our top pick for this job, turns your car listings into short vertical videos with AI, using the listing photos and details, and posts them automatically to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube. You don't film or edit anything, and you don't need an agency. Monthly plans, checked October 22, 2026, are Starter $49, Pro $129 and Enterprise $199, plus applicable sales tax. Keep these templates as your caption standard for anything posted under your name, and check that every price line matches your approved wording.
For the bigger picture, our guide to a car dealership social media strategy covers how to stay consistent week to week. If you are comparing software, see AI video car dealership tools. If you also cross-post inventory, the Facebook Marketplace car dealer rules for 2026 explain what changed there.
How we checked this guide
We read Instagram's own announcement on Threads, Meta's developer documentation, the CFPB's text of Regulation Z, the FTC's March and September 2026 releases and its pricing FAQs, NADA's page on the CARS Rule and Cox Automotive's Car Buyer Journey Study, all in October 2026. We could not find an Instagram help page we could open that states the 2,200-character caption limit; the only source is Meta's undated developer page, which still lists 30 hashtags. We also left out the common claim that captions cut off after a set number of characters, because we found no Instagram source for it. Every figure in this guide links to its source.
If you want the videos and posting handled while you keep control of the captions, try A21 Social starting at $49 per month.

What should I write in an Instagram caption for my car dealership?
Name the car (year, make, model, trim), add 1 or 2 details a shopper cares about, show the all-in price or invite a message, and say where the car is. End with one clear next step, such as a DM keyword or a phone number. Keep hashtags to 5 or fewer, which is Instagram's cap since December 18, 2025.
How many hashtags can you use on Instagram in 2026?
Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags in a reel or post. The @creators account announced the change on December 18, 2025. Adam Mosseri said a few specific tags perform better than a long list of generic ones.
What is the Instagram caption character limit?
Meta's Instagram Graph API documentation lists a maximum of 2,200 characters per caption. That developer page is undated and still lists 30 hashtags, which is older than the 5-hashtag cap from December 2025. We found no Instagram help page we could open that states the caption limit.
What are the best hashtags for car dealerships on Instagram?
No source we read ranks specific car hashtags. Instagram's head Adam Mosseri said a few specific tags perform better than a long list of generic ones. For a dealer, that usually means the make and model, your city, your dealership name and one tag for the type of post, staying within the 5-tag cap.
Can I post a monthly payment on Instagram without the APR?
Under Regulation Z, the amount of any payment is a triggering term in a credit ad. When an ad uses a triggering term, section 1026.24(d)(2) requires it to also state the downpayment, the terms of repayment and the annual percentage rate, using that term. This is a summary of the regulation text, not legal advice.
Do Instagram car ads have to include dealer fees in the price?
The FTC's September 2026 pricing FAQs say prices on social media are subject to the FTC Act. They state the advertised price must include any mandatory fee, including the full document fee if the dealer requires any consumer to pay it. Only charges the government requires the consumer to pay can be left out.
What are good short car sales captions for Instagram?
A short caption can be 2 lines: the car with its all-in price, then one call to action. Templates 2, 8, 11 and 13 in this guide are written for reels where the video carries the detail. Add up to 5 hashtags at the end.
What are good used car captions for Instagram?
Used car captions should lead with year, make, model and mileage, then 1 standout feature and the all-in price with mandatory fees included. Templates 1, 5 and 6 are built for used inventory. Only mention history details like one owner if they are true for that vehicle.
