These 15 marketing ideas for dealerships bring inquiries and sales in 2026: better listings on mobile.de, one short video per vehicle, fast responses via WhatsApp, genuine Google reviews, and reasons for test drives on your lot. For vehicle videos we recommend A21 Social, starting at €29 per month plus VAT. A21 Social is the publisher of this guide.

Goal Ideas from this list Where to start
Sell a specific vehicle No. 1 to 4: quality check, video in listing, price reel, campaign for slow movers mobile.de dealer area, Instagram, TikTok
Build trust in the dealership No. 5 to 9: collect and show reviews, handovers, workshop check, team Google Business Profile, Instagram, Facebook
Bring new customers to the lot No. 10 to 12: open house day, EV test drives, weekly new arrivals Instagram, Facebook, appointment booking on the website
Turn inquiries into sales No. 13 to 15: WhatsApp, fixed response time, wish-car search WhatsApp Business, mobile.de Lead Manager

How to use these marketing ideas for dealerships

Start with the ideas that sell a specific vehicle faster. Trust and on-site promotions follow. For each idea a phone, your inventory data, and the accounts you already have are enough.

Used cars are still predominantly bought from dealers. According to the DAT Report 2026, three quarters of all used cars were sold through dealers, and independent dealers were, for the first time, narrowly ahead of brand dealers at 38 percent versus 36 percent. On average, buyers paid 18,310 euros for a used car in 2025.

How digital the purchase is allowed to be is answered differently by different studies. In the DAT Report only about a third of buyers can imagine a fully digital car purchase; in the Automobilbarometer 2026 by Consors Finanz it's 60 percent. The studies phrase their questions differently and survey different groups. For your marketing this means: first contact happens online, while conversation and test drive take place at your location.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Take on the vehicles that have been standing the longest and work through ideas 1 to 4 for each.
  2. Define who answers inquiries from mobile.de, AutoScout24, and WhatsApp (ideas 13 to 15).
  3. From the trust and new-customer sections, choose the ideas that fit your team and schedule fixed weekdays for them.
  4. Check views and inquiries per listing in the dealer area of mobile.de and AutoScout24 before swapping out ideas.

Some ideas include a brief legal note. It only reflects what is stated in the law or the platform's rules and does not replace legal advice.

Which ideas sell a specific vehicle?

You sell a specific vehicle faster with a complete listing, one video per car, and a clear total price in every post. Vehicles with many standing days additionally get their own campaign.

Standing days are the days a vehicle sits in inventory from intake until sale. The longer it stands, the longer it ties up capital.

1. Bring the listing to the maximum score in the mobile.de quality check

The quality check is a free AI review that mobile.de has offered registered dealers for their listings since February 2, 2026. It rates 4 criteria: image quality at 40 percent, vehicle attributes at 30 percent, number of images at 20 percent, and length of description at 10 percent.

Work through your listings according to this weighting, starting with the photos. The individual steps to the maximum score are described in our guide on the mobile.de quality check.

Example: Every Monday a salesperson opens the quality check, sorts by lowest score, puts better photos on these listings first, and adds the equipment via VIN.

Why it works: Florian Baur, Chief Sales Officer at mobile.de, says: "Listings with a high quality score have a better chance of being placed more visibly in search results." Whoever ranks higher in search is clicked more often.

2. One short video per vehicle, linked in the listing

Film a short vertical video for each vehicle: walkaround exterior, interior, trunk, dashboard with mileage. Upload it publicly to YouTube and enter the link into the mobile.de listing. Where this field is located is shown in our guide uploading a mobile.de video.

The video does not factor into mobile.de's quality check. But it helps buyers who want to see the car in motion before viewing it. Publish the same video as a reel, as a TikTok, and on Facebook.

Example: A vertical walkaround around a Skoda Octavia Combi that ends with a shot of the dashboard and the caption "Request a test drive via WhatsApp."

Why it works: In the video the buyer sees paint and interior from every angle and hears the engine. Photos don't achieve that. One recording turns into content for 5 channels: listing, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.

3. The price reel with total price

Show the vehicle in a reel and state the price directly in the image and in the caption. Write what's included in the price, such as reconditioning or a new inspection (HU).

Legal note on price information: Section 3(1) PAngV states: "Anyone who, as a trader, offers goods or services to consumers or advertises to consumers while stating prices, must state the total prices."

Legal note on the Pkw-EnVKV: For advertising new passenger cars, the regulation requires the combined fuel consumption, combined CO2 emissions, and CO2 class, explicitly also on social media and video platforms. A passenger car counts as new, among other things, if first registration was no more than 8 months ago or it has driven no more than 1,000 km. This also covers young demo cars and day registrations.

Example: A reel about a demo vehicle that counts as new under the Pkw-EnVKV: the image shows the total price, the description states consumption, CO2 emissions, and CO2 class.

Why it works: Someone who has already seen the price in the video inquires more specifically, e.g. about a test drive, trade-in, or equipment.

4. A campaign for slow movers using the listing analysis

According to mobile.de, the listing analysis shows, among other things, the "probability of sale" and the "market situation"; the price assessment compares your vehicle, AI-assisted, with similar offers (Advertorial at AUTOHAUS, September 21, 2026). Every week, select the vehicle with the lowest probability of sale. Check the price, take new photos, and present the car as "vehicle of the week."

A standing day costs around 25 euros per car according to the DAT Barometer from June 2026. The full process with fixed review dates is described in our guide on reducing standing days.

Example: On Fridays a used-car dealer shows the "vehicle of the week" in a story and reel and writes what makes the car special, such as a complete service record or new tires.

Why it works: Your time flows into the cars where each additional day costs money. The vehicle gets a fresh presentation, and you don't have to lower the price immediately.

Which ideas build trust in the dealership?

You build trust with genuine reviews, open disclosure of condition, and faces from your team. The starting position is good: according to the DAT Report 2026, over 90 percent of buyers would recommend their dealer or buy from them again.

A new prospect, however, learns nothing of this satisfaction. With ideas 5 to 9 you make it visible to them.

5. Collect Google reviews with a link and QR code

Ask every buyer for a Google review and give them the link or the QR code from your Google Business Profile. How to create both and use them day-to-day is covered in our guide Google reviews for dealerships.

Legal note on reviews: According to Google Help, you may ask customers to click a Google link or scan a QR code. At the same time it states: "Incentives such as free or discounted products or services in exchange for reviews ... are considered fake engagement and are strictly prohibited."

Example: A stand at the handover area displays a QR code, and on the evening after the handover the salesperson sends the review link via WhatsApp.

Why it works: In the Dekra/Ipsos survey, 40 percent say online reviews influence them strongly or very strongly, another 42 percent say "partly/partly." Only 16 percent are barely or not at all influenced.

6. Show reviews in posts, with a note on authenticity

Turn good reviews into posts, for example as a story with a screenshot, a carousel, or an overlay in the handover video. This way the reviews are also seen by people who never open your Google profile.

Legal note: Anyone, as a trader, who makes consumer reviews accessible, for example on the website or on social media, must state under Section 5b(3) UWG whether and how they ensure that the reviews come from consumers who actually used or purchased the product or service.

Example: A story titled "What our customers say" shows a current Google review every day, and a fixed sentence in the profile explains whether and how the dealership verifies the authenticity of the reviews shown.

Why it works: According to Dekra/Ipsos, 38 percent of respondents want customer reviews as an online feature from the dealer. This way they find them where they're already active.

7. Show the handover as a story

Photograph or film the key handover, if the customer agrees. Publish the image as a story and as a Facebook post, and collect handovers in a story highlight.

Example: A customer stands with the key in front of her new estate car, with the caption "Safe travels, Mrs. Krüger! Thank you for your trust."

Why it works: A prospect otherwise learns nothing of the high satisfaction shown by the DAT Report. A series of genuine handovers shows them that satisfied customers regularly drive off your lot.

8. Show the workshop check and defects openly

Show in a short video what your workshop checks before the sale. Disclose defects openly and exactly as they appear in the listing.

Legal note on warranty: Under Section 476(2) BGB, the limitation period for warranty claims on used goods towards consumers may not be shortened to less than 1 year. This requires that the consumer be specifically informed before making their contractual declaration, and that the shortening be expressly and separately agreed in the contract. How you implement this in your contracts should be clarified with your legal counsel.

Example: The workshop master shows tire tread, brakes, and a stone chip in the windshield and says: "That's also noted in the listing."

Why it works: What the buyer has seen in the video no longer surprises them at viewing. And in the contract they later read the same thing you showed them beforehand.

9. Your team as the face of the dealership

Introduce salespeople, workshop master, and detailers in short videos. Everyone states who they are, what they can be contacted about, and which vehicle from inventory they currently recommend.

Example: In the series "Who's who at our place," a team member introduces themselves in a reel every Monday and says which inquiries can be sent directly to them via WhatsApp.

Why it works: According to the Automobilbarometer 2026 by Consors Finanz, nearly 70 percent of Germans give brick-and-mortar dealers a good image rating. Among 18- to 29-year-olds, trust in brick-and-mortar dealers is 73 percent. If a prospect already knows a face from your team, they more easily transfer that trust to your dealership.

Which ideas bring new customers to the lot?

New customers come to the lot when you offer a reason and a bookable appointment, such as an open house day, EV test drives, or the week's new arrivals. This matches buyers' wishes: according to the DAT Report 2026, only about a third can imagine a fully digital car purchase.

For gaining new customers at the dealership, it therefore matters how easily a visit can be booked. In the Dekra/Ipsos survey, 39 percent want online appointment booking and 38 percent want information on promotions.

10. Open house day with bookable test drives

Turn the classic open house day into a day with fixed test-drive appointments that prospects can book online in advance. Promote it with reels, stories, a Facebook post, and in the WhatsApp status. If showing new passenger cars, the mandatory disclosures from idea 3 apply.

Example: For "Test Drive Saturday," the salesperson shows in a reel the vehicles available for test drives and refers to the booking form. The day before, they remind all registrants via WhatsApp.

Why it works: Prospects book online, as they wish, and have a concrete reason to visit. Your team can prepare vehicles, number plates, and documents for every booked appointment.

11. EV test drives for the undecided

Invite people specifically to test drives with used electric cars. In short videos, explain everyday range, charging, and battery condition.

According to the DAT Report 2026, only 13 percent of used-car buyers can imagine buying a used electric car. Among buyers with EV experience, it's 37 percent.

Example: A TikTok video "My first drive in an electric car" shows a customer without EV experience on a test drive, after which the salesperson explains charging at the dealership's wallbox.

Why it works: The test drive provides exactly the experience that, in the DAT survey, correlates with higher purchase intent. For the EVs in your inventory, this brings more prospects.

12. The week's new arrivals

Show, on a fixed weekday, all vehicles newly added to inventory as a reel and in stories. Save the stories as a "New with us" highlight.

Example: Every Thursday the reel "New with us this week" appears with all vehicles that just went live on mobile.de and AutoScout24, each with total price.

Why it works: Your followers have a fixed reason to check in every week. A new vehicle is a reason to inquire or stop by before someone else buys it.

Which ideas turn inquiries into sales?

Inquiries become sales when you respond promptly, and on the channel the prospect chose. According to the Dekra/Ipsos survey, about 60 percent prefer digital channels for first contact.

13. Make WhatsApp Business visible everywhere

State your WhatsApp number in every video, in the Instagram profile, on the website, and on the stand at the lot. Set up a dedicated WhatsApp Business account for the sales team.

For first contact, 48 percent prefer email, 23 percent WhatsApp, and 16 percent dealer or manufacturer apps. 29 percent choose a personal visit, and only 8 percent the phone.

Example: Every vehicle video ends with the overlay "Questions about this car? Message us on WhatsApp" and the sales team's number.

Why it works: 23 percent of respondents want to inquire exactly this way. Anyone who has to search for the number first might message the next dealer instead.

14. A fixed response time within the team

Define who answers inquiries from mobile.de, AutoScout24, WhatsApp, and social media, and by when. For mobile.de, the Lead Manager helps, which according to the provider is included free in all packages and is available as an app for iOS and Android.

Here's what buyers' expectations look like according to Dekra/Ipsos: about a third consider a response within 24 hours acceptable, 18 percent expect it within 3 to 6 hours, 18 percent within 2 hours, 15 percent within 60 minutes, and 4 percent within 30 minutes.

Older figures show where things go wrong: in an internal measurement by AutoScout24 from October to December 2022, 63 percent of email inquiries to dealers went unanswered. According to kfz-betrieb from January 2018, 72 percent of prospects buy from the dealer they contacted first.

Example: The sales team has a rule that every inquiry is answered within 2 hours, even on Saturdays. The Lead Manager app is installed on the work phone for this purpose.

Why it works: Whoever responds properly first gets the first contact, and according to the 2018 figure, this first contact often determines the purchase. A fixed rule prevents inquiries from sitting unanswered because no one feels responsible.

15. The wish-car search via WhatsApp

Offer prospects the option to describe their dream car via WhatsApp, i.e. model, budget, and equipment. When a matching vehicle comes in, send photos and video before it appears in the vehicle marketplaces.

In the Dekra/Ipsos survey, 48 percent want personalized offers. This is the highest value among the online features surveyed, ahead of online appointment booking at 39 percent and the price calculator at 36 percent.

Example: A story asks: "Looking for an estate car with a tow bar? Tell us your wishes via WhatsApp, and we'll get in touch as soon as a matching one comes in."

Why it works: You already have the contact before the matching car is online. As soon as it arrives, you're the first dealer to reach out with a personal offer.

How often should a dealership post on social media?

Plan for 3 to 5 videos per week on TikTok; that's what TikTok for Business recommends for small businesses (September 2024). For Instagram, the platform itself names a benchmark: the creators with the strongest growth post on average 10 or more reels per month.

With ideas 2, 4, and 12 you cover this rhythm from your inventory, since every vehicle yields at least one video.

Platform How often Format
Instagram 10 or more reels per month (Instagram's benchmark for strongly growing creators) Vertical reels up to 3 minutes; longer ones are not recommended to new viewers; plus stories with highlights
TikTok 3 to 5 videos per week (TikTok for Business, September 2024) Vertical format 9:16
Facebook Meta doesn't give a number in our sources; share the same vehicle videos as on Instagram Video or post, schedulable in advance with the Meta Business Suite
YouTube Shorts YouTube doesn't give a number in our sources; one video per vehicle in inventory Vertical format, made public so you can link it in the mobile.de listing

This rhythm costs time. For ideas 2, 3, 4, and 12, each vehicle needs a video that someone must record, edit, caption, and upload to 4 platforms. Since inventory keeps changing, this work recurs every week.

This part is handled by A21 Social, our recommendation: the software uses AI to create short vertical videos from the photos and data in your listings and publishes them automatically to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. Filming and editing are eliminated, and you don't need an agency for it. You put the YouTube video as a link in your mobile.de listing, which also implements idea 2.

The monthly packages cost €29 (Starter), €79 (Pro), or €149 (Enterprise), each plus VAT. Everything that needs people stays with your team: answering via WhatsApp, test drives, handovers, and the team and workshop videos from ideas 8 and 9.

Your next step: start with the vehicles that have been standing the longest. For new passenger cars, check whether even automatically published posts include the mandatory disclosures under the Pkw-EnVKV (idea 3).

Which ideas work on which platform?

Vehicle videos fit all 4 platforms. Reviews, handovers, and on-site promotions are especially suited to Instagram and Facebook. On TikTok and YouTube Shorts, ideas with movement, people, and explanations work especially well, such as workshop check, team, and EV test drive.

Idea Instagram TikTok Facebook YouTube Shorts
2. Video per vehicle Reel Video Video Short, linked in listing
3. Price reel Reel with total price Video with total price Video with total price Short with total price
4. Vehicle of the week Reel and story Video Post Short
6. Show reviews Story and carousel Rather not Post Rather not
7. Handover Story and highlight Rather not Post Rather not
8. Workshop check Reel Video Video Short
9. Introduce team Reel Video Post Short
10. Open house day Reel and story Video Post Rather not
11. EV test drive Reel Video Video Short
12. Weekly new arrivals Reel and highlight Video Post Short
13. Make WhatsApp visible Profile and overlay in reel Profile and overlay Page and post Overlay and description
15. Wish-car search Story Video Post Rather not

Ideas 1, 5, and 14 are implemented outside social media: in the mobile.de dealer area, in the Google Business Profile, and within your team. On all 4 platforms, for new passenger cars the Pkw-EnVKV applies, which under Section 5(2) explicitly also covers internet advertising on social media and video platforms.

How we reviewed this guide

For this guide we evaluated laws, platform rules, and trade reports in October 2026: gesetze-im-internet.de, Google's help pages, the AutoScout24 dealer portal, experten.de, as well as AUTOHAUS reports on the DAT Report 2026, the Dekra/Ipsos survey, and mobile.de. We were unable to verify current usage figures for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook specifically among car buyers, as well as individual study values whose original documents were not readable. These figures are therefore missing from this guide. The figures on responding to inquiries date from 2022 (AutoScout24) and 2018 (kfz-betrieb), which is why we note the respective year in the text. Every figure is linked to its source at the point in the respective section where it first appears.

Our recommendation to get started: test A21 Social with your current inventory. Your vehicles will then appear as videos on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, while your team answers the inquiries. Packages start at €29 per month plus VAT.

Frequently asked questions

How does a dealership win new customers?

A dealership wins new customers by offering a reason to visit and answering inquiries quickly. Suitable means include test-drive days with online appointment booking, showing the week's new arrivals as a reel, and a clearly visible WhatsApp number. In the Dekra/Ipsos survey from November 2025, 39 percent of respondents want online appointment booking with the dealer.

Which advertising ideas for dealerships are cheap?

Some ideas cost only time. The mobile.de quality check is free for registered dealers, the Google review link with QR code is likewise free, and the mobile.de Lead Manager is included in all packages according to the provider. For vehicle videos without doing your own filming, A21 Social starts at 29 euros per month plus VAT.

How do I get more inquiries on mobile.de?

Bring your listings to a high score in mobile.de's free quality check, starting with image quality, which makes up 40 percent of the rating. According to mobile.de, listings with a high score have a better chance of being placed more visibly in search results. Also link a YouTube video in the listing and respond to every inquiry promptly.

How do I shorten standing days for used cars?

Each week, take on the vehicles that mobile.de's listing analysis rates with the lowest probability of sale. Check the price, improve photos and the listing, show the car as a video, and respond to inquiries quickly. According to the DAT Barometer from June 2026, each standing day costs around 25 euros per car.

Is WhatsApp Business useful for a dealership?

Yes, for a considerable share of buyers WhatsApp is the preferred channel for first contact. In the Dekra/Ipsos survey from November 2025, 23 percent of respondents prefer WhatsApp, 48 percent email, and only 8 percent phone. Therefore mention the WhatsApp number in every video, in the profile, and on the lot.

How do I get more Google reviews for the dealership?

Ask every buyer for a review and give them the link or QR code from your Google Business Profile. Google explicitly allows asking customers for reviews via a link or QR code. The handover and a WhatsApp message the same evening are well suited for this.

Is it allowed to give customers a discount for a review?

Not according to Google's rules. According to Google Help, incentives such as free or discounted products or services in exchange for reviews count as fake engagement and are strictly prohibited. Ask every customer for their review without offering anything in return.

Do I need to state the CO2 value in car advertising on Instagram?

Yes, for advertising new passenger cars. The Pkw-EnVKV requires in Section 5 the combined fuel consumption, combined CO2 emissions, and CO2 class, explicitly also on social media and video platforms. A passenger car counts as new, among other things, if its first registration was no more than 8 months ago or it has driven no more than 1,000 km.

What must legally be included in a used-car listing?

Anyone who offers or advertises vehicles with a price to consumers must state the total price under Section 3(1) PAngV. If the car still counts as new under the Pkw-EnVKV, consumption, CO2 emissions, and CO2 class must be added. This list is not complete; check your specific case with legal counsel.

How quickly should a car dealer respond to inquiries?

As quickly as possible, at the latest within 24 hours. In the Dekra/Ipsos survey from November 2025, about a third consider 24 hours acceptable, 18 percent expect a response within 2 hours, and 15 percent within 60 minutes. According to older data from 2018, 72 percent of prospects buy from the dealer they contacted first.
